Low-Calorie Popcorn Hack
I love popcorn. I can eat a gallon of it in a day, which is equal to about 250 calories. I air pop it and I don’t use butter.
You will need a small spray bottle. I bought mine at Walmart on the hair products aisle. It’s called a fingertip spray bottle. I think it cost a dollar.
The idea is that as the popcorn is flying out of the popper you spray it with one hand and sprinkle with the other.
But what do you spray and sprinkle, you ask?
Your choices of liquid are many I suppose and I urge you to experiment and let me know how it goes. I’m always looking for new outside-the-box ideas. But what follows is what I’ve tried and what has been suggested to me. I don’t mix all these together, but rather have tried them individually.
- Soy Sauce
- Bragg’s Liquid Aminos (tastes like soy sauce to me but it costs a lot more)
- Worcestershire Sauce (I dilute it a little with soy sauce)
As for sprinkling, salt is a given for me. I know some people don’t agree but I think salt makes life worth living. Other than salt, here are some suggestions.
- Nutritional Yeast – tastes buttery to me and a little goes a long way
- Spices – onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, etc
- Parmesan Cheese
The important thing is to sprinkle immediately after spraying while the popcorn is hot. Two things happen when you do it that way. The liquid causes the sprinkles to stick and the heat causes the light liquid spray to evaporate quickly.
So, that’s how I can eat a gallon of salty, buttery popcorn every day while I write without adding thousands of calories to my diet. Let me know if you try this and especially if you come up with some other toppings.
