Spring Has Sprung!

Spring Has Sprung!

Forest litter in the grainy snow.

In the woods there is still snow, but it’s grainy and coarse and dips down around tree trunks where the dark earth shows through.  And yesterday, birdsong greeted me as dawn was just breaking.

Last week we had a blizzard. The weatherman repeated himself several times calling the snowfall “insane” and warning us to stay home. This weekend it’s 55 degrees and the sun is shining on bare ground in the yard.

I let the girls go outside and when they asked I allowed them to run barefoot on the brittle lawn. Even though our fur babies have been in and out all winter they approached this newly warmed world with suspicion, slanting their eyes at the bright contrast of sun and shadow.  Saturday afternoon found us in the yard, basking in the novelty of air that doesn’t hurt to breathe.

Before long I started picking up debris exposed by the melted snow and the kids were involved in digging in their sandbox and one cat stretched out on the deck rail in the sun and it was like winter had never happened.

Note: Sing the song on my picture above to the tune of “My Favorite Things.” It’s the little things that make me happy. 😉
