Advent Calendar Day 20
Welcome to my 2017 advent calendar! Each day, I’ll have something new and special here for you. Some of the treats might be good for one day only–like a free book on Amazon!–and others will be more mundane blog entries like Christmas recipes. I’d recommend coming back each day so you don’t miss out on anything.
Now what’s behind door number twenty…?
Fruitcake is one of my favorite seasonal treats, so it always surprises me when other people use it as a punchline instead! I know it can be very dense and rich–more than many people might like–but it doesn’t have to be that way. This recipe from King Arthur Flour produces a cake that’s moist, dark, and full of delicious dried fruits instead of those neon colored candied ones you might remember from childhood.
And, of course, all the items that go in the cake itself are just suggestions! Other dried fruits or items like sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds could take their place. And you don’t have to let it sit around aging for a year, either. It’s delicious and ready to eat as soon as you’ve brushed your alcohol or simple syrup onto the still warm cake.
Come back tomorrow for the next reveal in the advent calendar!
